Embracing the breeze with a brew!

Embracing the breeze with a brew!

When you live on the Yorkshire Coast, you quickly develop a bit of "hardiness", pre-braced to not just handle, but love, the ever-changing weather. Even on the most bitter of winter days, you'll see people walking dogs, going for a run and surprisingly, sitting outside for a coffee! I love nothing more than being dragged across the beach by the dogs, but it's for a very selfish reason... there are many good hot chocolate spots to reward me with after the dog are tired out! https://player.vimeo.com/video/679210085?h=63c12d8fec&badge=0&autopause=0&player_id=0&app_id=58479 Now, it's not for everyone, and you do need to develop some pretty good…

Sewing the seeds of an epic adventure

Sewing the seeds of an epic adventure

It feels like a long time now since I was out on the bitingly cold day in Scarborough, listening to The Odyssey on a walk throughout the seafront, but it is a memory that has stuck with me. Something about listening to this epic tale told by people from the area resonated with me, and I've been following the story, eagerly awaiting the next instalment. Thankfully, I didn't need to wait too long, so when I saw the next part, "The Trojan Wars", advertised, I put it straight in the diary. It was well worth the trip out to the…

Scarborough…the influencer of multiple generations

Scarborough…the influencer of multiple generations

When I first heard about the Big Ideas by The Sea Festival, it felt BIG and unconventional. A festival of inspirational writers, artists and speakers talking about the town and how it inspired them would not have felt out of place in a big city. Still, for a seaside resort, it made me start to question how much did I really know about Scarborough? You don't need to be in the town for long before stumbling past the Stephen Joseph Theatre and, after some quick searching, find out about fantastic writers like Alan Ayckbourn, but when looking at the event…

A Thousand Ships (well, four) in a sea of flowers

A Thousand Ships (well, four) in a sea of flowers

After my first introduction to Odyssey on that bitterly cold April day where I battled with the dog to listen to the first instalment, I started following the story was excited to find out what was coming up next. What I didn't expect, however, was to be getting hands-on with Origami! When I read about the plan for the community to create, literally, a thousand origami ships, I was intrigued and decided to put in my order. Now, as a serial hobbyist who has many a project unfinished, like my out of control garden, I was excited about how labour…

Beauty from beach cleans!

Beauty from beach cleans!

It’s a personal choice to want to buy products which are kind to our environment, that doesn’t break the bank but also are good on the eye!  I have found it too easy over the last year to “click and buy” and detach the reality of how harmful items can be to our environment when looking for a quick find for others…or myself…but I am on a mission to make smarter shopping decisions. I love it when a business makes it easy! On a particularly brisk day out walking with the dog on North Bay in Scarborough, the need for…

A story never felt so real…and so Coast!

A story never felt so real…and so Coast!

It was a blustery day on the south bay in Scarborough, but needless to say, there is something quite comforting about the sting of the bitter sea air when you live on the Yorkshire Coast! This day was a little different, though, because I was excited about trying out a new walk, which promised to capture my imagination...and be easy on the limbs. I had decided to add a bit of variety to the dog walk by downloading a new Echoes App where I could listen to The Odyssey, which had been voiced by people living on the coast. It…

Family, local and a whole load of gift ideas

Family, local and a whole load of gift ideas

One of my favourite places to visit has got to be Eastfield Garden Centre…a place which quite literally, has everything under one roof! This garden centre has everything you would need to transform your open spaces, but as a novice gardener who has been trying to embrace the grow your own movement, it is the people here that really has made an impression. No question asked has been answered with despair when telling the five-year saga of the never fruiting tomato plants! In fact this year, following some top tips, they did actually fruit this year and I had a bumper…

Ale…a mans (and dogs!) best friend

Ale…a mans (and dogs!) best friend

Ale, my friends, is the new Prosecco… well, not entirely, but the story behind this amazing local brewery is right up our street! Nestled in the heart of Whitby is the Lady Luck Brewery that has been brewing delicious ale for many years. Now, I can't profess to be the ale drinker in my house, that is a role passed onto my willing participant of a husband, but if you haven't tried it before, it probably will surprise you! Ale isn't all about pairing with a packet of crisps and a pickled egg. No! Brewing has moved on, and so…
