It’s Friday… which means another Top 5 from the Team at LYC!
As we begin to welcome some mild Spring weather, the sight of snowdrops and lighter nights usually has me reaching for the recipe books to bake up something to celebrate the turning of the seasons.
This year has been a busy one already so instead, it feels only fitting to indulge in some of the fantastic cake shops we have across the Coast.
Here’s my Top 5 tea rooms from across the Yorkshire Coast if you feel like indulging yourself, too.
Located in the pretty village of Scalby, Scarborough, The Yew Tree offers an ever-changing array of scrumptious home-baked cakes, which you can choose to either eat in or take away. If you have time, relax and enjoy a Barista made coffee or choose from their range of speciality teas, delicious hot chocolates or classic milkshakes – very naughty!
No visit to Whitby is complete without calling into one of the Botham’s stores. They have a huge selection of sweet treats but my particular favourite is their Whitby Lemon Bun and they’ve been making them in Whitby for over 100 years! The special recipe has been passed down through the generations to Elizabeth Botham’s great and great-great-Grandchildren who run the bakery today.
Emma’s Coffee Lounge, Scarborough
Afternoon Tea is one of my favourites but few places take the extra time and effort in the same way as Emma’s Coffee Lounge. All their cakes are handmade, individually baked miniatures (rather than a cut slice from a large cake) which ensures they are fresh and o so fabulous! They always have a great range of flavours and textures too which is so important with afternoon tea.
Eastfield Garden Centre, Bridlington
A great place to grab some home-baked beauties on the go is Eastfield Garden Centre. They always have a fabulous selection of classic cakes which are individually wrapped for freshness as well as family sized, perfect if you have lots of mouths to feed (or one very hungry mouth!).
Sandgate Coffee & Delights, Whitby
Delight is in the name and it is most definitely in the window! Many a time I have gazed in with frosted breath on the glass of this great little bakery in Whitby and walked away with delights a plenty. There sure is lots to choose from but who can resist a cake called a ‘Whitby Fatty’? Not this girl – that’s for sure!
