Now the Autumnal weather is drawing in it’s time to wear your woollies, light the fire and feast on a comforting roast every Sunday.
We’re keen cooks here at Team LYC but Sunday lunch out is a real treat (perhaps it’s the washing up that makes us keen) so we’ve put together a list of great places set in our picturesque villages across the Yorkshire Coast to try for a slap-up roast when making it yourself seems a little too much.
Hare and Hounds, Hawsker
Located in the lovely village of Hawsker just three miles from Whitby is the Hare and Hounds. Expect a top-notch roast here with lots of little touches that make it feel really special.
Raven Hall Country House Hotel, Ravenscar
If you’re looking for lunch with panoramic views then look no further than Raven Hall Hotel which overlooks the stunning bay at Ravenscar. An amazing view whatever the weather.
Blacksmith Arms Inn, Cloughton
The Blacksmith Arms is a cosy pub where the welcome is as warm as the roaring fire. Offering a selection of main courses if you don’t fancy the roast, and the large dessert board, it’s sure to become a favourite.
Downe Arms, Wykeham
Head out to the countryside and relax at the Downe Arms in Wykeham. Choice is in abundance here with often at least eight vegetable dishes to try on their much-loved carvery.
The Foxhound Inn, Flixton
If you love a large hearty dinner – you’ve got to try The Foxhound Inn! The portions are very generous and always hit the spot, although we’ve never managed a dessert afterwards!
Royal Oak, Hunmanby
A classic carvery is served at The Royal Oak in Hunmanby with lots of choice and loads to do with the kids, they have a great outdoor play park as well as a large soft play area upstairs, they’ll love it!
The Seabirds, Flamborough
Follow the crowds that flock to Flamborough for The Seabirds Sunday lunch but make sure you book in! This village prides itself on quality ingredients and fantastic service, no wonder it’s so busy!
Ship Inn, Sewerby
Perched on the clifftop of Sewerby is the Ship Inn, a favourite with locals and visitors alike, this place is a dream for dog lovers and families providing great views and a stunning clifftop location to walk it off.
Cross Keys, Cowden
On the main road through Cowden, you can find The Cross Keys pub, with a lively atmosphere and chefs with real attention to detail it’s definitely not one to be missed.
Station Hotel, Patrington
Our most Southern spot on the list is the Station Hotel in Patrington. If you like a long social lunch this is the spot for you, have a few games of pool whilst you wait, you can even bring your pooch too.
