You’d be forgiven if you’re not so familiar with Whitby if you haven’t come across this little gem of a place before.
Just off the mini roundabout as you head towards Sandsend coming out of Whitby. Essentially, it’s the last house on the West Cliff. This prominent building used to be the clubhouse to the Golf Course many moons ago – as this old picture shows.
It still has a slight feel of a stylish clubhouse, with its wonderful panoramic views across the golf course and right across the bay towards Sandsend. It certainly takes some beating.
The tasteful, modern décor really makes you feel at home, with cosy corners and plenty of dining spaces taking advantage of the stunning views – including an extensive beer garden.
The bar and restaurant are dog-friendly – and of course, this is the perfect destination for any walk!
There’s a great menu too – lots of the usual favourite pub classics as well as some sizzling favourites and a separate pizza menu too! Fish and Chips are obviously a top choice but so are their Chicken Parmos. Sunday lunch is a very popular time to visit – you’d be advised to book ahead, particularly at this time. All the ingredients are sourced locally with meat from Radford’s Butchers of Sleights and fish products from Dennis Crooks of Whitby and (our particular favourite) proper homemade chips! <yum>
The welcome is so warm, in this family-run establishment that you’ll want to stay a while – and in fact, you can! There are eleven bedrooms – two with fantastic balconies to take advantage of that stunning view! Plus, the four rooms in their annexe are wheelchair friendly. Plus, not forgetting an absolute bonus in Whitby – free parking!
If you’ve not discovered them yet – we highly recommend a visit.
